Last Dance
I’ll just go and lie down a little while
My head is heavy from the party
My body unusually tired
It has been a wonderful night
I'm old, I can't keep up with the young
Dear friends feed on my memory
As I take one last drink from the fountain of your fascination,
My time here is done
I danced tonight for the last time,
Just to remind myself what it was all for
Before me was a wave of people
Salt and pepper faces that I adore
Now, as I rest into the soft folds of my bed
A clutter of voices fades into flight
Relax your toes girl
Shake off your feet
Arms, slide to your side
You better look neat
A hot flood hits my brain
My eyes close, I don’t feel
Who turned out the light?
Oh hell I don’t have eyes to see
So this is death
Well, I must thank you Lord
It sure has been fun being me.
